The advising assignment is due one week from today. If you have not booked your meeting yet, do it after class.

We share today’s period with a Physics@Tech talk, so keep this to about 15 minutes. Team Leader check-ins for the Team Project are also due Oct. 30. The extracurricular part of the advising assignment is now optional.

Spring 2027 registration: the dates that matter

• Check it in OSCAR on Oct. 29 and clear any holds with your advisor.

Dates from the Registrar’s 2026–27 calendar (last updated October 19, 2026); re-check before class. Time tickets are assigned by earned hours, so students with AP or dual-enrollment credit may get earlier tickets than classmates. Remind them that a W does not affect GPA but does show on the transcript, and that dropping below 12 hours can affect financial aid and scholarships; anyone considering a withdrawal should talk to their advisor first. Spring classes start Jan. 11.

First priority: math and Physics I and II

Every upper-level Physics course waits on these chains. Register for the next course in each chain first, then build the rest of your schedule around them.

• Math: MATH 1551 → 1552 → 2551 → 2552
• Physics I and II: PHYS 2211 or 2231 → PHYS 2212 or 2232
• Then the major opens up: PHYS 2213 / 2303 / 2304 → 3000-level → 4000-level

If something has to slip a semester, let it be an elective or a gen-ed, not a foundational course.

These sections fill. Pick a backup section for each one before your time ticket opens.

Callback to Lecture 4 (Building a Degree Plan): QM I needs PHYS 2213 or 2304 plus MATH 2551 and 2552, so a one-semester slip in calculus or Physics II pushes most of the major back a year. Students who placed out of MATH 1551 or PHYS 2211 but felt shaky should raise it with their advisor now. Check OSCAR for which spring sections are already near capacity.

Booking your academic advisor in Navigate360

1. Log in at gatech.navigate.eab.com or the Navigate360 app (GT login).
2. Open the My Team tab to see your assigned advisor.
3. Select Schedule an Appointment, choose advising, and pick a time.

Bring: your Degree Map, a draft Spring schedule, and your questions.

Advisor names are from the Center for Academic Success “Find Your Advisor” page; confirm before class, since My Team in Navigate360 is the authoritative assignment. A School of Physics faculty member also counts for the assignment. If no slots are open before Oct. 30, students should email their advisor (clear subject line, full name, major) and document the attempt. Consider having everyone open Navigate360 on their phones right now.
