Degree Map

Due: September 25 by 11:59 PM ET · 10% of course grade

1 Purpose

A degree map is a semester-by-semester plan from now until graduation. Building one early shows you how and when you will graduate, and where there is room for the things that make an undergraduate degree more than a list of courses: a minor, undergraduate research, study abroad, an internship, or a co-op.

2 What to Submit

  • A completed degree map covering every semester from Fall 2026 through your expected graduation.
  • Start from the GT 1000 Degree Map template (Excel) or build an equivalent table of your own.
  • The file must be submitted as a PDF, named Lastname-Firstname-Degree-Map.pdf.
  • Upload the PDF directly to the Canvas assignment by the deadline.

3 Expectations

Degree requirements. Plan against the official requirements for your major: Physics B.S. or the program you are actually enrolled in. Every required course should appear in some semester, and prerequisites should come before the courses that need them.

Transfer credit. Include all credit you arrived with (AP, IB, dual enrollment, other institutions) and state which degree requirement each one satisfies.

Minors and certificates. If you are pursuing or considering one, include its courses.

Co-curricular plans. Show where these fit, even if they are tentative:

  • Study abroad (a summer program or a semester away);
  • Undergraduate research for credit;
  • Internships (full-time or part-time, one semester each);
  • Co-ops (three alternating semesters of full-time work and full-time classes).

Credit hours. List the credit hours for each semester and a running total, and make sure the total meets your degree’s minimum.

Check your work. Compare your map against your DegreeWorks audit. A map is a plan, it does not need to be final as your interest change throughout your career at GT.
