Assignment 2 · Online Profile
Due: September 25 by 11:59 PM ET · 4% of course grade
1 Purpose
A professional online presence can help you connect with employers, graduate programs, alumni, researchers, and professional communities. You will create or meaningfully improve an online professional profile that represents your background, interests, and goals.
The primary focus of this assignment is LinkedIn. Students who do not yet have a LinkedIn profile should create a complete profile. Students who already have a LinkedIn profile should revise and strengthen that profile.
You may also include links to supplementary professional materials such as a personal website, GitHub profile, digital portfolio, ORCID profile, or other relevant professional presence.
2 What to Submit
Submit a single PDF to Canvas that documents your online professional presence. Your submission should include:
- A PDF copy of your LinkedIn (or equivalent) profile, saved using LinkedIn’s profile export feature.
- Optional supplementary URLs to professional websites, portfolios, GitHub, or similar materials that you would like to share. These links are encouraged but are not worth extra points.
3 How to Save Your LinkedIn Profile as a PDF
LinkedIn provides a built-in option to save your profile as a PDF from a desktop browser. To do so:
- Log in to LinkedIn on a desktop web browser.
- Click the Me icon at the top of the LinkedIn homepage.
- Select View Profile.
- In the introduction section of your profile, click More or Resources.
- Select Save to PDF.
LinkedIn notes that this export feature is available only for profiles set to English. If you are unable to access the PDF export feature, contact your instructor for an appropriate alternative method of documentation.
4 Expectations
Your LinkedIn profile should present you in a clear and professional way. A strong submission will generally include:
- A full name and headline.
- An introductory summary of yourself.
- A location and/or academic or professional affiliation, where appropriate.
- An education section that includes Georgia Tech and your degree program.
- Relevant work, research, leadership, project, or service experience.
- Skills, interests, or areas of professional focus relevant to your goals.
You are encouraged to think about how the profile communicates your likely next steps: industry employment, internships, graduate school, research, or another professional pathway.
5 Optional Supplementary Professional Links
In addition to your LinkedIn profile, you may include links to other professional materials. These are encouraged, especially when relevant to your field or goals, but they are not required and are not worth extra points.
Examples include:
- A personal professional website.
- A GitHub profile or other code portfolio.
- A design, writing, or project portfolio.
- An ORCID profile or other research-facing professional profile.
- Another professional platform directly relevant to your career direction.
If you do not wish to create or maintain a LinkedIn profile, you may instead use the supplementary material described above as an alternative submission for credit.
